National Soccer Team (Les Fennecs)
The Algeria national soccer team, known as "Les Fennecs" (The Fennec Foxes), has a rich history dating back to its formation in 1962, following the country’s independence from France. Before official FIFA recognition, an unofficial team composed of Algerian players based in France, known as the FLN team, played international matches to support the independence movement. Since joining FIFA in 1964, Algeria has become a powerhouse in African football, winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) twice - first as hosts in 1990 and again in 2019. The team has also qualified for four FIFA World Cups (1982, 1986, 2010, and 2014), with their best performance in 2014 when they reached the Round of 16 and held eventual champions Germany to extra time before being eliminated.
One of Algeria's most iconic players is Riyad Mahrez, a key figure in their 2019 AFCON victory and a global football star, known for his technical skill and playmaking ability. Another legendary player is Lakhdar Belloumi, famous for his role in Algeria’s historic 2-1 victory over West Germany in the 1982 World Cup, which remains one of the tournament’s biggest upsets. The team's all-time leading goal scorer is Islam Slimani, while Aïssa Mandi holds the record for most international appearances.

Algeria’s 2022 Home Jersey
The Algeria National Team’s 2024 home jersey design is inspired by the traditional karakou, a historic Algerian garment known for its intricate golden embroidery. The jersey features Algeria’s classic white base, accented with bright green trim along the collar, shoulders, and sides. A modern rounded neckline adds a contemporary touch, while subtle patterns on the front pay tribute to the karakou‘s ornate detailing. The Algerian Football Federation crest is displayed in green, red, and white within a circular badge, and the Adidas logo appears in red.
